      Gamma ray bursts that have been detected have all happened in other galaxies really far away from here. If one would happen close to Earth, it would be unlikely to completely wipe out the planet as our atmosphere is really good at absorbing electromagnetic radiation. However, it would be very dangerous to animals, plants and humans living here.
