      Great question.

      The more you take drugs, the more your brain changes in response to these drugs. Originally you get a subjective pleasurable response, but when you stop taking the drugs this is replaced by withdrawal (a negative response). People crave the pleasurable response of drugs to overcome the negative response.

      For most drugs withdrawal doesn’t last too long so if you can overcome the withdrawal your changes of staying off the drugs increases.
